Chocolate bourbon. No, really:

Chocolate.

Bourbon.

Huh.

It really could’ve jumped either way. Could’ve been fantastic. Could’ve been awful. It. was. fantastic.

To start, neat it tastes like any other good bourbon, a little sweet, a little caramel, a little vanilla but no discernible chocolate either in flavor or nose. Adding ice brought out the chocolate, first in the nose and it was really strong there but no matter how much it opened up it was never more than an aftertaste of a sip. It would pop up, three or five or seven breaths later, just about when I’d forgotten that there was supposed to be chocolate in there somewhere. I want to say almost playful.

Really, really nicely done. I want a bottle.

I spent most of Wednesday alternating between sitting here reading, swimming in that gorgeous water, and trying not to startle the tiny crabs who kept peaking out of their holes to check on me. I had other adventures this week but I could’ve spent the entire time just like this.
