What's that you say? A local distiller? Do tell!

 

I read about Fog's End here and kept it in the back of my head. On a recent trip to Monterey and Pacific Grove, I decided to search it out. Six bars (my initial thought was just to try it and not commit to a whole bottle) and two liquor stores later, I had a bottle of the Monterey Rye of my very own. Technically not a whiskey--it hasn't aged long enough or in the proper type of barrel--and, as my barkeep points out, sort of a rye/rum since the mash is 50/50 rye/sugar but I do not care because it is so, so very sweet and light and just incredibly satisfying.

It is like candy. I'm so very glad I didn't give up.
